Remembering the Brandywine.
Johnny’s family recollections describe land ownership near the Brandywine River, a four-story family home, and relationships with the du Pont family that extended across generations. He describes this branch of the family as descended from free Black people.
These accounts are part of the family’s oral history. The archive is being developed with photographs, names, dates, and property records to establish a fuller chronology. The reported connection between a family parking lot and the later Hercules building remains a research lead.
